Telecommunication is one of the integral parts of transportation system, through which speech and data are transferred resulting in reduction in personnel trips, thereby reducing load on transportation system. Based on the demand of telephone lines, various facilities such as location of telephone exchange, cable ducts, routing of cable, location of service centers and Public Call Offices are provided in all nodes.

Navi Mumbai is covered under MTNL, Mumbai and has all the telecom facilities at par with Mumbai. MTNL network in Navi Mumbai has a total equipped capacity of more than 1,40,000 lines and 15 Telephone Exchanges covering entire Navi Mumbai. The transmission links between Navi Mumbai and Mumbai are through Optic Fibre Cables and hence most reliable. The telecom/telephone services from private sector companies are also available in Navi Mumbai. M/s.Hughes Telecom India Ltd.(HTIL) is a basic telephone service provider in private sector. M/s. Reliance Infocom is developing OFC backbone to provide basic and other value added telecom services.

MTNL, BPL Mobile, Hutchinson Max and Airtel have already provided their services. MTNL, VSNL and other private internet companies are also providing services in Navi Mumbai. With these state-of-the-art services at par with Mumbai, Navi Mumbai becomes the City of 21st Century in its true sense.

MTNL has 11 telephone exchanges in Navi Mumbai. They are at Vashi, Kopar Khairane, Nerul, Turbhe, Rabale, Belapur, Taloja, Kalamboli, Panvel, Uran and Nhava Sheva.

The offices of General Manager, Administrative Department, Commercial Department and Accounts Department are located at Vashi, Sector 16. There are 13 ''Quick Customer Service Centers'' (QCSC) to facilitate registration for new telephones, STD, ISD, PCO, Internet booking, transfer of phones, surrender of phone, bill-payment by cash, by cheque and issue of duplicate bills as well as safe custody of telephones for short duration (below 90 days). There are thirteen bill collection centers. Bills also can be paid within due date at all authorised banks and post offices.
