   Flora and Fauna

A variety of flora and fauna are found here. The plant species found in the region are Rain tree, Ashoka, Neem, Gulmohur, Eucalyptus, Cassia, Casurina, Bottle Brush, Spathodia (fountain tree), Silver Oak, August (Sesbania), Teak, Sagar Gota, Wine Palm, Beetlenut, Coconut Fan Palm, Water Palm Date Palm etc.

Around 50 species of birds could be observed in Navi Mumbai area. Some of these birds that have found their permanent habitat in the nearby Karnala Birds Sanctuary are frequenting the area. The sanctuary is just 30 km from the city. Hence the city provides good opportunity to bird watchers and also for nature lovers for hiking and tracking. Some of these birds are White Wagtail, Large pied Wagtail, Thick billed Flower pecker, Purple Sunbird, White-eye, Red vented Bulbul, Grey Shrike, Bay backed Shrike, King Crow, Maina, Crow Pheasant, Barn Owl, Jungle Owlet, Spotted Owlet, Palm Swift, Blue rock Pigeon, Indian ring Dove, Indian Kestral, Grey Patridge, Grey Quail, Pond Heron, Cattle Egret, Little Egret, Black winged Kite, Pariah Kite, Indian White backed Vulture, Long billed Vulture, Red Wattled Lapwing, Sandpiper, White breasted Kingfisher, Chestnut headed bee-eater, Blue Jay, Small Green Barbet, Rufoustailed Finch Lark, Bombay Babbler, Tickell"s Blue Fly catcher, Franklan"s Wren Warbler, Ashy Wren Warbler, Tickell"s Leaf Warbler, Magpie Robin etc.
