On 17th March, 1971 with CIDCO having started functioning, a new city dawned on the 344 Sqkm horizon. The strip of marshy land was lying between village Dighe in Thane district and Kalundre village of Raigad district parallel to the then Greater Bombay. It consisted of 150 km. creek line of 720 km. Konkan coast. The area where 95 villages existed was healtherto a non-entity. The villagers were living a calm life unaware of the pace of life in the neighbouring town. CIDCO carved out 14 nodes - small townships - of the land with a view to facilitate comprehensive development and to give it an identity of new city. These nodes are as follows
